All works are handcrafted and designed in Melbourne, using precious metals, real human hair, and human teeth. These raw materials from the body are filed, shaped, thoroughly sterilized and then handset in metal.

To create the precious metal castings of teeth and hair the lost wax casting process is used. This technique involves making a mould of the teeth and hair, then casting these shapes into precious metal.

Polly has been creating wearable works under the label VAN DER GLAS since 2007. Silversmith qualified (NMIT advanced diploma) and 2006 Fresh! Award winner, Polly’s previous study also includes a degree in fashion design from RMIT, and postgraduate study at Melbourne University in cultural studies. She currently shares a studio with a collective of jewellers in Melbourne.
